Shakira bringing universe tour to S. A. On Oct. 2: Shakira has been traveling the globe in recent months for various causes, but it’s been four years since the Colombian-born rocker has been in the Alamo City. On Saturday, Oct. 2, the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter returns to San Antonio as part of the North American leg of her “The Sun Comes Out” world tour. Showtime is at 8 p.m. at the AT&T Center. Tickets, ranging from $50 to $166, are still available through Ticketmaster.
Shakira last played in San Antonio in 2006 as part of her “Oral Fixation” tour. Her current tour, which kicked off Sept. 15 in Montreal, is in support of her upcoming studio album, “Sale el Sol/The Sun Comes Out.” The bilingual album is set for an Oct. 19 release. It’s Shakira’s seventh studio album.

Shakira performed at the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa this past summer. Her song, “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” was the World Cup’s official song. It also will be featured on her upcoming album.
Shakira visited Phoenix in April to denounce the state’s new immigration law that would give authorities the right to ask to see a person’s paperwork allowing them to live in the United States. Shakira held a press conference in the Arizona state capital to voice her concern that the law would impact Latino families.
When a devastating earthquake struck Haiti in February, Shakira announced she would help build a new school through her nonprofit foundation Pies Descalzos. Shakira founded Pies Descalzos in 2003 to help disadvantaged children and their families in her native Colombia.
