The Hips Don't Lie singer is to be honoured for her philanthropic contributions as well as her successful recording career. Recording Academy president Gabriel Abaroa Jr said the organisation was honoured to pay tribute to such a "dynamic, socially conscious woman".

The tribute gala will be held a day before the annual awards show. Shakira, is also up for three Grammys, including album of the year. The 34-year-old star is the youngest person to receive the tribute. Previous recipients include Placido Domingo, Carlos Santana, Gloria Estefan, Julio Iglesias and Ricky Martin.

In a statement, the singer said receiving the award was "truly an honour". Shakira rose to fame in the early 1990s, but it was not until the release of her 2002 single Whenever, Wherever that she achieved worldwide success. Her 2009 album She Wolf has sold more than two million copies worldwide and she recorded Fifa's official song for the 2010 World Cup.

Her philanthropic efforts began at the age of 18, when she founded a charity aimed at supporting the academic needs of underprivileged children. She is also a global ambassador for Unicef. The Latin Grammys will take place on 10 November at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

A day after we reported that Shakira was in talks for a cameo in the upcoming fifth season of Bigg Boss, sources from the production house have confirmed that the Latin popstar will indeed star on the show. Buzz has it that Mexican actor Barbara Mori has also been approached to be part of the show. Others who may join the list are TV actors Parul Chauhan and Karan Singh Grover of Bidai, and film actor Riya Sen.
“In the last season, Ashmit Patel gave his side of the story about the Riya-Ashmit MMS controversy. This time, they want Riya to speak up,” says a source.

While serial killer Charles Sobhraj’s wife Nihita Biswas and former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu have confirmed participation, singer Jay Sean, actor Mink Brar and Pakistani actor Humaima Mullick are other names doing the rounds. This time, the show will be shot in Karjat.

The upcoming season of the popular primetime reality show is being co-hosted by Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt. It will go on air next weekend.

Colombian pop music goddess Shakira has been nominated for three Latin Grammy awards, the Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences announced on Wednesday.

Everybody's favorite Barranquilla-born babe was chosen as 1 out of 5 for Best Album of the Year for her newest release "Sale El Sol." The same album is up for nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Album.

Blond bombshell Shakira is also up for Best Music Video for her sex-on-wheels video for hit song "Loca". On YouTube, the video has over 64 million views, and it's pretty obvious why... she is wearing gold pants.

Softer and more feminine than her past two scents—“Amuleto” and “S by Shakira,” Shakira’s new fragrance aims to become a best seller. The Colombian singer’s new perfume is a combination of jasmine, wild fruits, musk, and vanilla, with a more delicate scent than her previous two perfumes.

The singer drew an interesting parallel between music and how it is possible to express and convey certain emotions through smells, the same way that certain combination of chords rouse special feelings in people.
The new perfume maintains the shape of the “S” bottle, and also the price, between $17 and $35. Only time will tell if Shakira’s new fragrance becomes a best seller and enters the list of the best selling Hispanic celebrity fragrances compiled below:

Shakira has started planning her eighth studio album. The singer has met with producers Afrojack, Dr Luke, RedOne, Benny Blanco and Max Martin about working on the follow-up to 2010’s The Sun Comes Out, according to Shakira-Media.

The ‘She Wolf’ star has also approached underground club DJ Venus X, who has revealed that Shakira is eager to produce a dance-inspired album. “Hopefully I’ll be able to introduce her to things that are working on the dance floor so she can translate and reinterpret them for universal pop,” DJ Venus X said. She added: “Shakira wants to make dance music. She’s always been ahead of the curve. With ‘Ojos Asi’, she was doing Arabic instrumentals with Spanish vocals.”

Loved-up Shakira was caught on camera canoodling with her Spanish stallion at a rodeo during their recent trip to the US. Unaware of the camera-phone voyeur seated behind, the Hispanic hottie swapped smiles, kisses and caresses with boyfriend Pique as the cowboys cavorted in front.

Shakira has a new charity mission to help the YMCA education programs for Hispanic youths in Miami. The Colombian singer’s Barefoot Foundation has teamed up with her boyfriend’s soccer team FC Barcelona. Shakira’s boyfriend is George Pique.

Shakira said when announcing the partnership, “Hispanics in the United States have everything to gain. We have the talent, we have the will. I truly think that with more education and more sports, we can achieve the unthinkable. We can have the ball on our side of the court.”

Superstar Shakira has teamed up with her boyfriend Gerard Pique's Spanish soccer team for a new charity mission. The Colombian singer's Barefoot Foundation has joined forces with Pique's club, FC Barcelona, in an effort to fund and better support Ymca educational programmes for Hispanic youths in Miami, Florida.
Announcing the partnership at a local school, the Hips Don't Lie hitmaker said, "Hispanics in the United States have everything to gain. We have the talent, we have the will. I truly think that with more education and more sports, we can achieve the unthinkable. We can have the ball on our side of the court."

Colombian superstar Shakira appeared at the University of Miami Monday afternoon to announce a partnership between her charitable foundation and that of soccer superpower FC Barcelona, who play an exhibition match in Miami on Wednesday.

Along with officials from the Spanish side, three Barcelona players appeared to promote the project -- including the other half of Shakira's much-buzzed-about relationship, center back Gerard Piqué.

Though the celebrity couple drew cheers inside and outside UM's fieldhouse, it was a major investment in YMCA educational programs for the local Hispanic community that brought the pair in front of cameras.

“Hispanics in the United States have everything to gain," Shakira told the crowd before receiving a Barcelona jersey with the name of her foundation on the back. "We have the talent, we have the will," she said. "I truly think that with more education and more sports, we can achieve the unthinkable. We can have the ball on our side of the court and play the best of moves.”

Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez, Commissioner Steve Bovo, FC Barcelona Foundation vice-president Ramon Pont and YMCA of Greater Miami Board Chairman Brian Mormille were all on hand to promote the coming program that will benefit local youth, though details were not entirely revealed.

FC Barcelona play Mexica club Chivas de Guadalajara at Sun Life Stadium on Wednesday, with more than 60,000 tickets already sold.

Shakira and Piqué are reported to have met at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where she performed the theme song "Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)", and he won the whole shebang as a member of the Spanish national team.
